Advantages of Tooth-Colored Fillings

  1. Natural Appearance: Unlike traditional silver amalgam fillings, tooth-colored fillings match the color of your teeth, making them virtually invisible.

  2. Bonding Strength: Composite fillings bond directly to the tooth structure, providing better support and reducing the risk of fractures.

  3. Conservative Approach: Less healthy tooth structure needs to be removed during the placement of tooth-colored fillings compared to amalgam fillings.

  4. Mercury-Free: Tooth-colored fillings do not contain mercury, which is a concern for some patients.

The Filling Procedure

  1. Preparation: Our dentist will remove the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth and clean the area thoroughly.

  2. Shade Selection: We choose a composite material that closely matches the color of your natural teeth.

  3. Layering: The composite material is applied in layers, with each layer being cured (hardened) using a special light.

  4. Shaping and Polishing: After building up the filling, our dentist shapes it to fit your bite and contours it to look natural. Finally, the filling is polished for a smooth finish.

Aftercare

  • Avoid Staining Foods: While tooth-colored fillings are resistant to staining, it’s best to avoid excessive consumption of dark-colored foods and drinks (such as coffee, tea, and red wine).

  • Good Oral Hygiene: Regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings help maintain the longevity of tooth-colored fillings.
